Mapping the organizational impacts of Health Technology
Context
Innovation in healthcare technologies (such as new drugs, medical devices or professional practices) generate along, with benefits and side effects for patients, organizational impacts. Innovation in healthcare technologies have multiple impacts on healthcare organization, on professional caregivers and, sometimes, on patients. Manufacturers are aware of that and thus strongly advocate in favor of routinely include these impacts in the assessment of innovative health technology.
Solution
Upon request of the HAS (the French equivalent of Swissmedic), a map assessing the organizational impacts of innovative healthcare technologies was developed for manufacturers that apply for reimbursement by the HAS. This research project was carried out in collaboration with the IFROSS (University of Lyon 3) and the HAS.
Advantages
Manufacturers and the HAS have now a guide allowing them to map and assess the organizational impacts of their innovation. This map will support the identification of a broader spectrum of impacts of healthcare technologies on healthcare organization and by then improve production and buyers' decision-making.
