Context

The presence of surface defects (roughness and cracks) and/or internal defects (porosity, lack of fusion, etc.) are the main reasons for the failure of metal parts manufactured by L-PBF subject to repeated mechanical stresses like medical screws.

Proposed solution

The fatigue behaviour of parts manufactured by L-PBF is improved thanks to post-treatments (HIP, suitable surface finishes, electropolishing, etc.).
