BB-Sensors
Current vital signs monitoring systems are not suited to the field of neonatalogy, especially premature newborns. The goal of our project is to address this need by developing a portable and miniaturized wireless vital signs monitoring system. Another key aspect of the system is to seamlessly integrate with the hospital’s existing devices.
Our system is composed of two embedded platforms. The first platform is miniaturized autonomous (rechargeable battery) and carried by the patient. Existing vital sign sensors, such as ECG and SpO2, are plugged in and signals are wirelessly sent to a second embedded platform connected to the Philips M3/M4 monitor. The second platform performs a combined signal analysis in order to detect vital signs’ abnormalities. Health professionals can perform remote monitoring of any patient by connecting to each patient’s monitoring system via their mobile device and visualize, in real-time, vital sign curves and be notified of abnormalities.
Our platform is not limited to neonatalogy and can address other special needs, such as mobility in emergency response aid and monitoring for the elderly. In short, any field requiring a portable wireless monitoring system would benefit from our platform.
